SSFFF has hired Dr. Mark Maunder to review the current stock assessment for Summer
Flounder, and to attend the upcoming Assessment Methodology meeting and subsequent Stock Assessment Workshop (SAW) for Summer
Flounder.
This is the first step in assuring that the science used in the Summer Flounder
fishery is the best and most accurate science available......
In addition to hiring our own scientists we have also pledged financial support to the
Partnership for Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Science. The Partnership was created several years ago by RFA, United Boatmen, Garden
State Seafood Association and Rutgers and Cornell Universities.
The Partnership has hired Brian Rothschild to attend the upcoming Stock Asessment Workshop
(SAW) on Summer Flounder in 2008.
SSFFF's goal is to assure, through legislative and scientific means, a viable Summer
Flounder Fishery in the future. Having a presence at the upcoming SAW is a first step in the long term process of assuring
that once there is a "long term" that it remains that way.
